Description

There are hands that wear their adornment the way temples wear their carvings: with complete, unhurried conviction. The Haath Phool is among the oldest forms of hand jewellery in the subcontinent, a single ornament that bridges the wrist and the fingers, turning the open palm into an ornamental surface. This piece is worked in brass, a metal beloved by craftspeople across Rajasthan and Bengal for its warmth, its weight and its willingness to hold intricate surface detail. At 38 grams, it carries a presence you feel rather than merely see. The silhouette follows the classical form: a cuff or band at the wrist connected by delicate chains to finger rings, the central medallion flowering across the back of the hand in a motif that echoes the vocabulary of Kundan and temple jewellery without requiring precious metal to make its point. The brass has been finished to a burnished gold tone, catching light the way old thewa work does, somewhere between amber and honey. Wear it with a tissue silk saree and a low-cut blouse for a wedding mehendi, where its drama belongs entirely to the hand. For a contemporary pairing, it reads beautifully over a deep-hued, full-sleeved kurta, letting the hand jewellery stand as the sole statement. The piece is free size, designed to accommodate a range of hand proportions through the adjustable chain lengths. Brass requires gentle care, kept away from moisture and perfume to preserve its burnished finish over time.
