Cast in brass and finished in the warm, burnished manner of South Indian temple jewellery, this necklace set carries the image of Goddess Lakshmi at its heart, flanked by the lotus scrollwork, peacock motifs and deity medallions that define the Nagercoil and Tamil Nadu temple tradition. Temple jewellery was once the exclusive property of devadasis and shrine adornment; its forms, hammered and cast by generations of karigars, moved into domestic ceremony over centuries without losing their sacred gravity. The brass here is worked to replicate the deep, antique-gold warmth of the originals, with raised relief detailing that catches light at every angle. The necklace measures thirty and a half centimetres in length, and the earrings, at four and a half centimetres tall and two and a half centimetres wide, have the generous presence the tradition demands. The complete set weighs one hundred and five grams. Wear it over a silk Kanjivaram or a heavy Benarasi for a wedding, puja or classical dance performance. It reads equally well against the ivory of a cream chanderi kurta for a formal festive afternoon. The necklace is offered at a standard fit suitable for most necklines.
