Description

A mathapatti that turns geometry into ceremony. The Geometric Design Kundan Mathapatti draws on the flatwork tradition most deeply associated with the ateliers of Jaipur, where karigars set foiled stones flush into a lac-filled base to produce that characteristic cool luminosity. Here, the technique is rendered in brass rather than gold, bringing the piece within reach without sacrificing the visual language of Kundan entirely. The silhouette is architectural: a sequence of angular, repeating motifs arranged along a central spine, each unit framing its inlaid stones with the precision of a hand-scored grid. The setting holds the stones close to the surface so that light skims across them evenly, giving the finished piece a restrained, almost lapidary quality. At eleven inches in length and half an inch in width (approximately 28 cm by 1.3 cm), the mathapatti sits firmly along the central parting without overwhelming finer features. The piece weighs thirty-three grams, substantial enough to hold its drape with confidence. Pin it into a silk tissue dupatta for a mehendi morning, or layer it over a hand-block-printed cotton kurta for a curated festive lunch where the geometry reads as intentional rather than ornamental. Offered in free size, the mathapatti is designed to be pinned or clipped at the hairline and requires no resizing. The brass base is finished to a warm tone that holds the Kundan work neatly in place, making this a piece suited to regular ceremonial wear.
