Description

There is a patience in silver that only filigree knows. Tarakasi, the ancient wire-weaving craft of Cuttack in Odisha, reaches its quietest perfection in these drop earrings. Karigar hands draw sterling silver into gossamer threads, then coil, curl and solder each one by hand until a full floral form emerges, petal by petal, without a single gemstone required to hold the eye. The motif here is botanical: a layered blossom worked entirely in open lacework, the negative space as deliberate as the silver itself. At 1.9 inches in height and 1.2 inches in width (roughly 4.8 cm by 3 cm), the earrings carry visual generosity without physical heaviness. The sterling silver is kept in its natural bright finish, allowing every twist of wire to catch light at a different angle. At ten grams the pair, the weight is present but never burdensome, a reminder that real craft has substance. Wear them with an ivory cotton kurta for a quiet Saturday lunch where the silver speaks without competing, or pair them with a silk tissue saree at a winter wedding where their intricate silhouette holds its own against richer weaves and heavier ornament. Free-sized hook closures make these suitable for most ear piercings without adjustment. The sterling silver construction resists tarnish reasonably well with minimal care, and the open filigree structure means they breathe through long days without pressing against the neck or cheek.
