Description

A garden held still in uncut stone, then suspended from the ear. Each earring is built around a layered floral medallion set in the Polki tradition, where flat, unfoiled stones are pressed into a lacquer bed within a brass silver-alloy frame rather than claw- or bezel-set in gold. The technique belongs to a lineage of North Indian jewellery-making, closely related to the Jadau work practiced in Jaipur, where the karigar packs coloured lac behind each stone to give it warmth and depth from within. Here, that warmth reads as a soft, silvered bloom, the petals fanning outward in concentric rings before dropping into a cascade of natural pearl danglers. At eighty grams, the earring has perceptible presence; the five-inch (approximately 12.7 cm) drop and 1.2-inch (approximately 3 cm) width make this a statement silhouette, not a whisper. Wear them with a deep-toned silk tissue sari for a shaadi sangeet, where they will catch candlelight at every turn. They are equally right with a hand-block-printed anarkali and flat Kolhapuri sandals, anchoring a daytime festive look without effort. These are free-size earrings with a standard fitting. The lacquer-set stones require no moisture exposure, so avoid perfume directly on the piece. The brass silver-alloy base keeps the weight distributed; despite the generous drop, the earrings sit comfortably through a long ceremonial evening.
