Description

There is a particular kind of weight that feels like inheritance. These Kundan jhumkas are built around a floral disc that sits at the shoulder, each petal outlined in the flat, foil-backed Kundan setting that Jaipur's craftsmen have refined over centuries. The technique demands patience: a base of lac pressed into brass, then glass stones laid by hand and pressed into fine gold-toned foil borders, one at a time, until the flower holds its symmetry. From the disc, the bell-shaped jhumka body drops in a cascade of beaded strands, each bead catching light with the small, deliberate movement of the ear. At 3.4 inches height by 1.4 inches width (approximately 8.6 cm by 3.6 cm) and weighing 72 grams, these are earrings that are felt as well as seen, substantial in the hand and grounded at the lobe. Wear them with a raw silk kurta in ivory or blush for a festive lunch, letting the beaded drops carry the colour. They read equally well against a deep Benarasi sari blouse at a wedding evening, where candlelight will do the remaining work. The brass base keeps the structure firm across a long evening without distortion. A single hook fastening makes them straightforward to put on and remove. Free size, with a hook closure suited to standard piercings. Store flat to protect the Kundan setting.
