Description

Drawn from the vocabulary of wire-and-void, this jhumki asks nothing more of ornament than the quiet drama of negative space. Sterling silver threads are coiled, twisted and soldered into latticed arches that build, tier by tier, toward a domed bell silhouette characteristic of the filigree tradition practised across Bengal and Odisha, where karigars spend years mastering the patience of silver wire. Each curve is set without a single gemstone, relying entirely on the interplay of fine silver tracery and open ground to catch light. The result is a high finish that reads luminous against skin without weight: at nineteen grams the pair, and measuring three and a half centimetres in length by just under one and a half centimetres in width (1.4 inches by 0.6 inches), the earrings carry themselves with a confident but airy presence. Sterling silver, valued for its purity and workability, develops a soft warmth with wear. Pair them with a crisp white cotton kurta and the silver reads sculptural, almost architectural. On a smoky silk blouse under a Benarasi sari for a festive evening, the open filigree catches candlelight in a way no solid casting could manage. The jhumki fits all ear piercings as a free-size piece; the high-polished finish resists daily tarnish well, and the construction is robust enough to move from an afternoon lunch to a late wedding reception without a single adjustment.
