Description

There are bracelets that catch the light, and there are bracelets that hold it prisoner. This piece is built in 18-karat gold, its structure a continuous line of faceted rubies set in close, considered formation, each stone cut to maximise the depth of its crimson interior. The diamonds arrive as punctuation between them, small and precisely placed, their white brilliance throwing the ruby's warmth into sharper relief. Faceting, rather than the domed cabochon surface favoured in Polki or Jadau traditions, is a deliberate choice here: it speaks to a more contemporary sensibility while drawing on the long Indian reverence for ruby as a stone of sovereign status, a gem associated with Mughal courts and the finest Jaipur stone-setting workshops. The gold itself, at 10.75 grams, has a satisfying weight that registers on the wrist without heaviness. The bracelet runs to 6.5 inches, approximately 16.5 centimetres, a standard length that sits well on most wrists without adjustment. For occasion, consider pairing this with an ivory chanderi kurta and pearl drops for a festive lunch, or against the deep silk of a Banarasi blouse at a wedding reception, where the ruby and diamond play directly against the zari. The free-size fit suits wrists that do not need a clasp to be coaxed open repeatedly. The 18-karat gold resists daily tarnish, making this a piece that can pass from morning to evening without ceremony.
