Description

There are mornings when colour is the only ornament one needs. Pink tourmaline, mined from the earth in shades that range from the palest blush to a deep, concentrated rose, has been prized by jewellers across India for its extraordinary clarity and the way it holds light from within. This strand works each stone into a faceted briolette, a cut that multiplies the facets across a rounded, drop-shaped form so that every bead catches and returns light at a different angle. The result is a necklace that shimmers rather than glitters, with a quiet luminosity entirely its own. Strung on an eight-inch length (approximately 20 cm), the strand carries around sixty-eight beads, each averaging six millimetres across, and weighs a neat ten grams in the hand. It is unhurried work, bead by bead, the kind of precise stringing that artisans in Jaipur's gem bazaars have practised for generations alongside their Kundan and Polki ateliers. Wear it against bare skin with a sleeveless ivory kurta for a summer lunch, or layer it over a deep emerald silk blouse at a festive evening gathering, where the rose tones will deepen beautifully against the contrast. At free size and ten grams, the strand sits lightly at the collarbone without pulling. The faceted surface is smooth against skin, and the consistent bead size gives the necklace a clean, even drape that holds its shape through a full day of wear.
