Description

There is a particular shade of green that belongs to early morning light on still water, and this necklace holds it bead by bead. Chalcedony has been prized in Indian jewellery long before the Mughals set it into gold, traded across the subcontinent for its waxy, translucent calm. These beads are faceted with precision, each multifaceted surface catching light at a slight angle so the stone reads differently at every turn of the neck. The green here is cool and mineral, neither too blue nor too olive, the kind of colour that gemstone traders in Jaipur's Johari Bazaar call pakka sabz. At an average height of 0.75 inches (approximately 1.9 cm) per bead, the proportions are substantial without heaviness. The finished necklace weighs just 7 grams, a restraint that speaks to the stone's natural lightness rather than any compromise in quality. The stringing is clean and even, letting the faceted surfaces do the work. Wear this against a raw-silk kurta in ivory or pale gold for a lunch that requires understated elegance. It sits equally well over a fine cotton sari blouse when you want a single, considered accessory to carry an otherwise simple drape. Free-sized and designed for everyday wear, the necklace requires no special storage beyond keeping it away from sharp surfaces that might scratch the stone's polish. At 7 grams it sits lightly through long hours, and its mineral green translates effortlessly from daylight into a softly lit evening.
