Description

There are necklaces that announce themselves, and there are necklaces that simply glow. This one belongs to the second kind. Faceted garnets, each cut to catch light from every angle, are strung in a continuous beaded silhouette that moves with quiet authority. The deep, wine-red of the stones is the colour of a Rajasthani winter sunset, and it sits in natural, uncomplicated contrast against sterling silver components that have been kept deliberately understated so nothing competes with the gems themselves. Garnet has been prized in Indian jewellery-making for centuries, appearing in Mughal pietra dura inlays and in the polished bead traditions of Jaipur's stone-cutting workshops, where the craft of faceting by hand still produces that particular inner luminosity no machine can wholly replicate. At thirty-two grams, the necklace has satisfying weight without burden, and the seventeen-and-a-half-inch length (approximately forty-four centimetres) sits precisely at the collarbone. Wear it over a cream silk kurta for a festive lunch where you wish to be noticed without effort, or layer it against a charcoal merino turtleneck for a winter evening that calls for something rich and considered rather than ornate. The garnet reads equally well against ivory and against deep jewel-toned fabrics. The sterling silver construction makes this a dependable everyday piece as much as an occasional one. Free size by design, the fixed length flatters most necklines. Store away from moisture and it will deepen in character with each wearing.
