Description

There is a quiet drama in violet, and this necklace understands it entirely. Strung from faceted amethyst beads, each one cut to catch and scatter light in the particular way that only a multifaceted surface can, the piece moves with a pleasing weight across the collarbone. The stones range through the characteristic spectrum of natural amethyst, from pale lilac at the edges to a deeper, almost ceremonial purple at the centre of the eye. Sterling silver findings and a sterling clasp anchor the strand, the metal polished to a clean brightness that allows the gemstone to hold the conversation. This is not a tradition rooted in a single regional school, yet the sensibility is one that Indian jewellery has long honoured: the belief that a well-cut stone, correctly set, needs no ornament beyond itself. At 31 grams, the necklace has presence without burden. Wear it against a Benarasi silk blouse in ivory or dusty rose for a wedding festivity where restraint reads as confidence. It sits equally well over a fine cashmere turtleneck for an autumn evening abroad, where its depth of colour does the work that elaborate goldwork might otherwise do. The necklace measures 16 inches (approximately 40.6 cm) in length, a classic collar-to-chest proportion that suits most necklines without adjustment. The sterling silver closure is secure and straightforward to manage. The metal will take a soft cloth polish and the beads require only gentle wiping, making this a piece one reaches for without anxiety.
