Description

There is a quietness to the best Kundan work, a stillness that makes you lean in rather than step back. These earrings are made in the Kundan tradition, where stones are set not with prongs but with refined foil and wax, pressed flush into a brass base by steady, practised hands. The silhouette is elongated and architectural, dropping to two and a half inches (approximately 6.4 cm) at their longest and spanning just over one inch (approximately 2.8 cm) across. The stones are arranged in a layered, chandelier-like formation, each one caged in the flat, smooth Kundan setting that has defined Rajasthani jewellery for centuries. The brass base, left beneath the foil work, gives the piece its warm, golden body and accounts for the substantial weight of forty-one grams, a reassuring presence on the ear. The coloured stones, cool against the gold-toned framework, carry the characteristic Jaipur sensibility: vivid without being restless. Pair them with a tissue silk saree for a daytime mehendi ceremony, where they hold their own without competing with heavier neck pieces. For a destination wedding dinner, wear them with a dark velvet blouse and unstitched drape, and let the earrings do the talking. The free-size hook closure suits most ear piercings and requires no adjustment. At forty-one grams, the drop is perceptible but not punishing for an evening's wear. The brass construction keeps the form crisp and the price considered, making this a piece one reaches for often.
