Description

There is a particular stillness to Kundan work, as though the jewel has always existed and the karigar merely revealed it. These drop earrings are set in the Kundan tradition, where polished glass stones or coloured pastes are pressed into a lac-filled brass frame by hand, each stone held firm by fine gold-toned foil burnished flush at the edge. Brass forms the base here, its weight lending substance without the severity of heavier metals. The silhouette is a narrow vertical drop, two inches tall and just under an inch wide (approximately 5 cm by 2 cm), tapering from a broader crown into a slender fall. Two colour ways are offered: a deep forest green and a rich red, both drawn from the palette beloved by Jaipur's Kundan workshops, where colour combinations are treated with the same seriousness as the setting itself. At 22 grams, the earrings carry a pleasing heft that signals craft rather than costume. Wear the green colourway against the ivory and gold of a Banarasi silk for a winter wedding, or let it anchor a plain olive kurta at a festive afternoon gathering. The red reads brilliantly alongside cream chanderi or against the dark borders of a Kanjeevaram. The free-size drop suits most ear lengths without alteration. The brass base is finished to resist tarnish with regular care. Standard hook closures ensure ease of wear across a full evening, making these as practical as they are considered.
