Description

There are bridal sets that ornament a woman, and there are those that consecrate the moment. This Kundan necklace and earrings set with matching maang tikka belongs to the second kind. Rooted in the Rajput tradition of Jaipur's Kundan karigarkhanas, it is composed on a brass base, worked in the layered Jadau manner: gemstones set not with prongs but with pure gold foil pressed into a lac foundation, holding every stone in a flat, luminous embrace. The necklace spans a generous 30.5 cm in width, falling in two registers, a rigid choker sitting at 3.3 cm height and 15.7 cm across, and a longer panel suspended on an adjustable dori, the full drop reaching 30.5 cm. The earrings measure 8.1 cm by 3 cm, pendulous enough to graze the collarbone. The maang tikka descends 13.2 cm, centring the forehead with a single weighted flourish. Together the set weighs 328 grams, a presence that registers in the body, not only the mirror. Wear it against an ivory or deep red silk Banarasi for a wedding ceremony, or let it anchor the relative simplicity of a tissue organza lehenga at a sangeet, where the Kundan's cold fire speaks loudest.
