Description
There are bridal mornings that deserve to be worn, not merely dressed for. This six-piece Kundan choker set speaks the language of Rajasthani bridal craft at full volume. The choker, broad at five and a half inches (approximately 14 cm) across and anchored by an adjustable dori, is set with flat-polished Kundan stones laid into brass in the manner that Jaipur's karigars have practised for generations: each stone pressed into its foil-backed cell by hand, each line of the geometric-floral repeat considered before the next begins. The maang tikka descends four and a half inches (approximately 11.4 cm) along the central parting; the nath, one and a half inches (approximately 3.8 cm) in diameter, trails an eight-inch chain across the cheek; the hathphool, four and a half inches (approximately 11.4 cm) of linked brass fretwork, bridges wrist to ring. The full set weighs three hundred and ninety grams, a weight that registers on the body as ceremony, not ornament. Wear it with a heavily embroidered silk lehenga in ivory or deep red for a wedding ceremony; it reads equally well against the muted ground of a Benarasi tissue saree for a mehendi or sangeet where the light is warm and the occasion calls for drama without apology. Every element is free-size or adjustable, so the set fits most adult wearers without alteration. The brass base is sturdy enough for a full day of celebration, from morning rituals through to the evening's last rite.
