Description

There is a geometry to devotion, and the chakra has always known it. Rooted in the Rajasthani Kundan tradition, this mathapatti traces its lineage to the ateliers of Jaipur, where karigars press foiled stones into a burnished brass base with a patience that has no modern shorthand. The central motif is the chakra, that ancient wheel of cosmic order, rendered here not in grandeur but in careful repetition along a slender headpiece measuring 11.2 inches (approximately 28.4 cm) in length and just 0.6 inches (roughly 1.5 cm) in width. Kundan work demands that each stone be individually seated and sealed within fine metal borders; on brass, the effect is warm rather than cold, approachable rather than ceremonial. At 37 grams, the piece carries real presence without strain, the colour running gold-toned against the set stones in the manner typical of festive Rajasthani adornment. Worn low across the forehead, it transforms a silk organza lehenga into something quietly extraordinary; equally, it finishes a draped Banarasi sari for a morning puja or an intimate wedding function without competing with heavier temple necklaces. Free size in fit, the mathapatti is adjustable at the ties and sits comfortably against most hairlines. Brass as a base holds its shape reliably over time; a gentle wipe with a soft cloth after wear is all the care it asks. This is jewellery that earns its place in the trousseau, not through spectacle, but through sincerity of craft.
