Description

Carnelian holds fire the way dusk holds colour: briefly, completely, without apology. These earrings are set in sterling silver, the warm burnt-orange of the carnelian stones placed against the cool, oxidised finish of the metal in a pairing that feels almost elemental. The cabochon setting keeps each stone intact and readable, letting the natural banding and glow of the carnelian speak without interruption. Sterling silver at this weight, just two grams for the pair, is worked with a restrained hand; the setting has the quiet confidence of craft that does not need to announce itself. Carnelian has long been favoured in Indian jewellery traditions for its grounding warmth, appearing in everything from Mughal inlay work to the polished silver pieces of Rajasthan, where silversmiths understand how stone and metal argue and then agree. Wear these with a rust or ivory chanderi kurta for a cultural evening or a heritage craft fair, where the earrings will read as quietly knowing rather than decorative. They pair equally well with a fine cotton sari in terracotta or cream, holding their own without competing. At two grams total, these earrings sit without strain on the ear across a full day. The free-size fit of the closure makes them easy to wear on both pierced lobes without adjustment. Sterling silver, when kept dry and stored in cloth, holds its finish gracefully and resists tarnish with minimal care.
