Description

There are mornings when a pair of earrings feels less like an accessory and more like a small, considered poem. These jhumki earrings are worked in sterling silver and shaped around the motif of a butterfly, its wings rendered with the kind of deliberate attention that belongs to the silversmith's tradition rather than the assembly line. The form follows the classic jhumki silhouette: a domed bell body that tapers into a gentle drop, here anchored by coral stone settings that introduce a warm, terracotta-toned counterpoint to the cool brightness of the silver. Coral has long held a place in the jewellery vocabularies of Rajasthan and the coastal south, prized as much for its colour as for its weight in the hand. At twenty-nine grams, this piece carries real substance, measuring approximately four and a half centimetres in height by just under three centimetres in width, with a depth of roughly one and a half centimetres. The silver finish reads clean and unoxidised, letting the butterfly wings catch light without competing with the stone. Wear these with a silk organza kurta in ivory or pale gold for a celebratory lunch, or draw them into the register of the everyday by pairing with a handwoven cotton sari in rust or ochre, colours that echo the coral and settle the silver. The jhumki closure is designed for standard pierced ears and sits comfortably without pulling. The measured dimensions make these suitable for most face shapes, the drop length being present without excess.
