Description

There is a quiet confidence in a necklace that needs no gilding. Brown glass seed beads, each one smoothly uniform, are strung in a long continuous rope that draws on a tradition far older than fashion: the stringing of humble, earth-toned beads in markets from Rajasthan to Bengal, where colour and repetition do the work that precious metal might otherwise claim. The seed-bead form has its own grammar, rooted in craft bazaars and folk adornment, where artisans select beads for their consistency of tone and size before threading them onto a strand designed to drape cleanly at the collarbone and chest. This piece measures twenty inches, roughly fifty-one centimetres, and weighs a considered sixty-one grams, giving the strand enough body to hold its shape without pulling or tangling. The warm, dark brown reads as almost amber in certain lights, drawing out earthy undertones in natural fabrics. Wear it over a cream handloom cotton kurta for an afternoon that is unhurried and considered, or layer it beneath the collar of a rust silk blouse paired with a gathered cotton skirt for an evening with warmth and intent. Free-sized and designed as a single continuous length, this necklace requires no clasp adjustment and sits beautifully on most necklines. The glass beads resist everyday handling with ease, asking only that you store them loosely coiled, away from sharp edges, so each bead retains its surface and its colour across seasons of use.
