Description

The peacock does not merely sit in this rakhi; it holds court. Meenakari, the ancient art of fusing colour into metal, reaches one of its most joyful expressions in Rajasthan, where artisans press vivid enamels into fine engraved recesses to conjure birds, blooms and boughs. Here, a peacock rendered in lustrous metal wears a coat of deep blue enamel, its plumage picked out with care and set against a beaded surround of matching blue stones that catch light with quiet confidence. The pendant measures just 0.65 inches (approximately 1.65 cm) in height, a compact medallion suspended on an 18-inch (approximately 45.7 cm) thread that keeps the composition light against the collarbone. At 8.5 grams, the piece carries the presence of an heirloom without any of the weight. Worn with a white cotton kurta on Raksha Bandhan morning, the blue reads like a fragment of monsoon sky. It is equally at home layered over a silk blouse at a festive lunch, where the enamel holds its own against richer embroidery without competing. The free-size thread accommodates most neck sizes comfortably, and the secure closure requires no fuss. The metal base ensures the enamel surface remains resilient through a day of celebrations. A piece this considered, at a price this accessible, makes an uncommonly thoughtful gift for a sister who loves craft as much as colour.
