Description

There are mornings when the sky just before rain holds a colour that has no name, and this necklace has found it. Set in sterling silver, this piece centres on blue chalcedony, a stone whose translucent, cloud-soft haze sits somewhere between pale aquamarine and the innermost blue of a glass bangle. The cabochon-cut stones are mounted in close silver bezels, a setting technique that wraps each gem in a continuous metal collar, letting the stone's own luminosity speak without distraction. The silverwork is clean and deliberate, with a surface finish that reads as brushed or oxidised in the recessed areas, giving the piece a quiet depth. At roughly 145 grams, the necklace has genuine presence on the body, and its eighteen-inch length (approximately 45.7 cm) falls at the collarbone, a placement that has always suited sculptural silver work from the craft traditions of Rajasthan and the South. Wear it over an ivory cotton kurta on a quiet afternoon, and the blue reads almost meditative. Against a steel-grey silk blouse at a winter gathering, it becomes the only ornament you need, doing the work of colour and texture simultaneously. The free-size chain fits most necklines without adjustment, and the sterling silver construction makes it suitable for regular wear, provided it is stored away from moisture and perfume. A soft cloth buff will restore its finish whenever the silver begins to warm with time.
