This beaded necklace in copper alloy and wood belongs to a vernacular tradition that thrives far outside the gold bazaars of Jaipur or Bikaner, in the quieter workshops where natural materials are handled with equal seriousness. The copper alloy components carry a warm, oxidised warmth that deepens with wear, while the wooden beads bring a lightness and earthiness seldom found in fine-metal work. The dangles, strung at intervals along the strand, move with the body and catch light in the modest, unhurried way of handcrafted things. Available in red and yellow, each colourway draws on the palette of folk festivals and rural ceremony, colours that have always known how to hold their own.
