Description

There is something quietly insistent about a choker that sits close to the throat and refuses to be ignored. This beaded metal choker belongs to the long lineage of Indian fashion jewellery that borrows its vocabulary from bazaar craft traditions without pretending to be something grander. The body is composed of densely strung metal beads, their weight a satisfying 76.5 grams that you feel the moment you lift it, a reminder that this is not a flimsy confection. The metal carries a burnished, oxidised quality typical of pieces assembled by artisans working in the costume jewellery clusters of Rajasthan and Gujarat, where volume and colour are understood as their own form of luxury. Three colourways are offered: a deep black for those who prefer their drama understated, a vivid red that recalls the lacquered bead traditions of Bikaner and Jaipur, and a multicolour version that layers several tones together in the manner of folk mala work. The black and red versions each measure 7.5 inches (approximately 19 cm) and sit snugly at the collarbone; the multicolour variant runs slightly shorter at 7 inches (approximately 18 cm). Pair the red with an ivory chanderi kurta at a mehendi gathering, or wear the black against a silk blouse at an evening event where you want the neck to do the speaking. One size fits most wearers comfortably, and the fastening is straightforward enough for daily use without assistance. The metal finish is resilient for regular wear.
