Description

Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, rendered in the ancient grammar of South Indian temple craft. Cast in brass and aged to a warm, burnished patina, this necklace and earring set draws on the devout visual language of temple jewellery that once adorned processional deities and classical dancers in the Nagercoil and Thanjavur corridors. The central necklace, measuring ten inches in height (approximately 25.4 cm), is built around a large, high-relief Ganesha motif, framed by the layered architectural borders, lotus medallions and scrolling foliate work characteristic of antique temple pieces. The earrings, at 2.25 inches tall by 1.20 inches wide (approximately 5.7 cm by 3 cm), carry matching deity-scale detailing. Brass, chosen deliberately over gold, gives the set its honest weight, a combined 205 grams that settles on the body with authority, and its deep amber warmth deepens beautifully with age. This set arrives most naturally at a Bharatanatyam recital, where it reads as both costume and devotional offering. Equally, it belongs at a festival puja lunch: layered over a deep Kanjivaram silk with a moiré weave, where the brass catches candlelight and holds its own against the richest woven borders.
