Behind this piece
The Pathani kurta carries the sensibility of the North-West Frontier, where garments were cut for long days and longer distances. Its defining features, the wide Afghani cut and the piped neckline and placket, arrived in the Indian subcontinent through trade and migration, eventually settling into the cotton-weaving traditions of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Plain, unornamented fabric was never a compromise here; it was a considered choice. This particular set, stitched in pure cotton, honours that restraint. The piping detail is the only flourish, and it is precisely enough.
How to style
For daily wear, pair the Light Gray or White Sand set with tan Kolhapuri chappals and a simple oxidised silver chain. For a festive gathering that asks for ease over formality, the Dark Blue reads beautifully alongside a hand-block-printed cotton stole from Bagru and tan mojris. The Steel Gray variant suits office or cultural event settings when paired with a structured leather belt cinched over the kurta, brown leather loafers, and a wristwatch rather than conventional jewellery. All four colourways accept a slim Nehru jacket in khadi for cooler evenings.
Fabric & care
Pure cotton breathes freely but rewards considered handling. Wash in cold water on a gentle machine cycle, or hand-wash with a mild detergent. Avoid soaking for extended periods, as this weakens the weave over time. Dry in shade, laid flat or on a hanger, away from direct sunlight to protect the depth of the Dark Blue and Steel Gray tones. Iron on a medium setting while the fabric retains slight dampness for a crisp result. Store folded on a flat shelf rather than hung, to preserve the shoulder seams across seasons.
