Behind this piece
The kaftan is among the oldest silhouettes in recorded dress history, travelling from the Ottoman courts through Persia and into the subcontinent, where it found new life in the hands of Indian artisans who layered it with local sensibility. This piece draws on that long inheritance. Printed on fluid viscose in three distinct colourways, each saturated with the kind of confident chroma that recalls Rajasthani block-print traditions, it is finished at the neck with hand-applied crystal work: a detail that echoes the zardozi impulse to transform a garment into something ceremonial without altering its ease.
How to style
Wear the Sunshine colourway to a summer terrace lunch with flat Kolhapuri chappals in tan leather and a single strand of uncut polki. The Rainbow version pairs generously with wide-leg palazzo trousers in ivory and silver juttis for a festive evening at home. For the Blue and Orange, try slim cigarette pants in deep navy, block-heeled sandals, and oxidised silver earrings with a tribal drop. All three colourways sit well at beach destinations, destination weddings with a relaxed dress code, or any occasion where ease and intention occupy the same room.
Fabric & care
Viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre: it breathes beautifully but dislikes rough handling. Hand wash in cool water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, never wringing or twisting the fabric. Rinse gently and press out water between two clean towels. Dry flat in shade to prevent the print from fading and the fibre from distorting. Iron on a low setting while the fabric is still slightly damp, always on the reverse side to protect the crystal work at the neck. Store folded, not on a hanger, to preserve the drape over time.
