Description

There are eyes that have watched over Kathmandu's valley for centuries, and now one rests, quietly, at your collarbone. The Swayambhunath Eye, those all-seeing eyes painted on every face of the great stupa's tower, is among the most recognisable sacred motifs in Himalayan iconography. Here, it is rendered in sterling silver, inlaid with meticulous precision to capture the elongated, kohl-lined form and the curling question-mark nose below, which in Nepali numerology represents the numeral one, unity itself. The pendant measures one inch in height (approximately 2.5 cm) by 0.6 inches in width (approximately 1.5 cm) and weighs a precise three grams, which places it comfortably in the tradition of lightweight devotional jewellery made to be worn, not displayed. The silver carries that cool, matte or lightly burnished quality typical of hand-finished pieces shaped by craftsmen working in the Indo-Himalayan silver tradition, where symbolic clarity matters far more than ornamental excess. Wear it on a fine silver chain against a plain white linen kurta for meditative everyday elegance, or layer it over a deep indigo silk blouse on an evening when the conversation turns philosophical. It suits both the morning ritual and the art-gallery opening. The free-size pendant suits most chain lengths, from a close sixteen-inch fit to a longer opera drop. At three grams, it sits without weight. The sterling silver requires only occasional polishing to maintain its quiet, contemplative gleam.
