Description

There are naths, and then there are the ones a woman remembers wearing. This piece belongs to the second kind. Set in brass and finished in the warm, muted manner of Rajasthani bridal craft, it carries a deep red kundan stone at its centre, held within a closed foil setting that traps and intensifies colour in the way only true kundan work can. The kundan technique, refined over centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur, demands that each stone be pressed into a bed of lac and sealed with fine gold foil strips; here, that discipline is rendered in brass, making the tradition accessible without diluting its visual authority. The ring itself is a full hoop nath, generous in presence, measuring approximately 2.8 cm in height and 3.6 cm in width, with a 7.5-inch draping chain that anchors to the hair or ear, framing the face with old-world ceremony. At just 5 grams, it sits lightly despite its scale. Wear it over a deep red or ivory Benarasi for a wedding ceremony, where the chain catches candlelight beautifully. It reads with equal conviction alongside a raw-silk kurta at a festive mehendi, anchoring a simple look with one considered gesture. Free-sized with a traditional pin-and-hook closure, the nath accommodates most nostril placements comfortably. Brass holds its finish well with minimal care; a soft, dry cloth after wearing is all this piece asks in return for years of service.
