Description

There are naths, and then there are naths that announce themselves before you even speak. This one belongs to the older Rajasthani tradition of the large ceremonial nose ring, where size was never excess but simply eloquence. The circular frame, approximately 2.2 inches (5.6 cm) wide and 2.1 inches (5.3 cm) tall, is set with uncut Polki stones in the manner of the Jaipur workshops, where foil-backed settings catch candlelight and hold it. A beaded border traces the outer rim, each bead a small percussion in brass, lending the piece the dense, handworked quality that distinguishes a crafted object from a cast one. The seven-inch supporting chain keeps the weight, a substantial 20 grams, distributed gracefully against the cheek. Available in two enamel colourways, green and red, the palette nods to Meenakari sensibility, where colour is never incidental. Wear the red colourway against ivory or cream silk at a winter wedding, where it reads as bridal without overwhelming. The green variant pairs beautifully with a deep-toned Banarasi or a Kanjeevaram in bottle green or teal, anchoring a heritage look with quiet authority. At free size, the nath is fitted with a standard loop closure suited to most piercings. Brass, finished here with care, is a material long favoured in folk and devotional jewellery for its warmth and workability. At 20 grams, this piece is present but wearable across an evening.
