the story,

Behind this piece

Amritsar has long been the city where the Punjab's weaving traditions and its merchant ambition meet. The chain stitch embroidery on this shawl belongs to a lineage of surface work that travelled through Kashmir and settled into the workshops of the old walled city, where craftsmen adapted the technique to wool with a fluency entirely their own. Each flower is worked with a hooked needle called an ari, coaxing thread into interlocked loops that hold both tension and light. The multicolour palette across five grounds, from Cannoli Cream to Jet Black, gives each version a distinct character.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape the Cannoli Cream or Savannah Tan over a raw-silk kurta and wide-leg palazzos for a winter festive lunch. The Jet Black ground suits an evening reception when worn over a sheer embroidered anarkali, its flowers doing the work that jewellery might otherwise do. For the Patriot Blue or Clear Sky, try it folded lengthwise over a tailored ivory blazer and straight trousers, with kolhapuri block-heeled sandals to keep the look grounded. A pair of small gold jhumkas works across all colourways without competing.

to last,

Fabric & care

Wool holds memory, so treat this shawl with patience. Hand-wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping the soak brief to prevent felting. Never wring; press gently between two dry towels to remove moisture. Lay flat on a clean surface away from direct sunlight to dry, reshaping the borders while still damp. Store folded, not hung, to avoid stretch. Tuck a cedar block or dried neem leaves nearby to discourage moths. With this care, the wool will soften beautifully over years of wearing.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
