the story,

Behind this piece

Pochampally, a small town in Telangana's Nalgonda district, is the heartland of Indian ikat weaving. Here, the resist-dyeing of threads happens before a single pass of the shuttle, demanding a precision that borders on mathematical. The Padmasali and Devanga weaving communities have practised this double-ikat technique for generations, producing patterns that blur at their edges with an intentional, almost painterly softness. This white and black saree belongs to that rigorous tradition: its contrast border a quiet declaration of the weaver's command over geometry, proportion, and the honest beauty of undyed cotton.

to wear it,

How to style

For a morning literary event or gallery opening, wear this saree with a charcoal or slate-grey cotton blouse, structured at the shoulder. Silver oxidised jewellery from Rajasthan, particularly long earrings with geometric motifs, will echo the ikat's clean lines. Footwear: flat Kolhapuri chappals in tan leather. For a wedding day brunch, pair with an ivory silk blouse and pearl drops for understated refinement. This saree also drapes beautifully in the Bengali style, allowing the bold border to cascade at the front, transforming a restrained palette into a confident statement.

to last,

Fabric & care

Wash this pure cotton saree separately in cold water, by hand, using a mild detergent formulated for delicate textiles. Avoid soaking for longer than five minutes, as the resist-dyed threads are susceptible to colour migration. Do not wring; instead, roll gently in a clean towel to remove excess water. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can yellow natural cotton over time. Fold along the original crease lines and store wrapped in a soft muslin cloth. With attentive care, a Pochampally cotton saree softens and improves beautifully across years of wear.
