about the piece,

Description

There are greens that belong entirely to the mountains, and this is one of them. Woven from pure wool in the high-altitude tradition of Kashmir, this stole carries the unmistakable weight and warmth that only cold-climate fibres can offer. Across its vivid ground, Kashmiri artisans have worked the aari hook with practiced patience, tracing floral vines and paisleys in the sinuous language that the Valley has refined over centuries. The paisley itself, known locally as the keri or boteh, is among the oldest motifs in the Kashmiri embroiderer's vocabulary, its teardrop form echoing river bends and the cypress tree in equal measure. Each stitch is set by hand, one at a time, giving the finished surface a depth and vibrancy that no loom alone can produce. The result is a piece that sits at the meeting point of textile heritage and daily elegance. Draped loosely over a plain ivory or cream kurta, it becomes the entire occasion. For winter gatherings or festive evenings, fold it at the shoulder and let the embroidery speak for itself.

Gentle & simple
the story,

Behind this piece

In the narrow lanes of Srinagar's old city, aari embroidery has been practised for centuries by craftsmen who work with a hooked needle, driving it through tightly stretched wool with a rhythm that borders on meditative. The craft arrived in the Valley via Central Asian trade routes and took root in Kashmiri homes, where it became inseparable from the region's identity. On this vivid-green stole, the aari needle traces flowering vines and classic paisley forms, each motif built stitch by stitch into the pure wool ground. The result carries the density and sureness of a tradition unbroken across generations.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape this stole over a cream or ivory silk kurta for a winter festive gathering; the saturated green reads as jewellery in itself. For a more composed, urban look, fold it lengthwise and lay it across the shoulders of a charcoal wool blazer with straight-leg trousers. At a winter wedding, pair it with a deep burgundy anarkali and gold jhumkas, letting the embroidered vine fall diagonally across the body. In every case, keep footwear simple: a kolhapuri sandal or clean leather mojri allows the stole's craftsmanship to remain the focal point.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure wool breathes and recovers beautifully when treated with patience. Hand-wash in cool water using a gentle, pH-neutral cleanser, and never wring or twist the fabric. Support the stole's full weight when lifting it from water, then press it between two dry towels to draw out moisture. Lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight, which can shift the vivid green over time. Steam lightly to ease any creases. For storage, fold loosely in muslin or unbleached cotton, and tuck in dried neem leaves to discourage moths. Stored well, pure Kashmiri wool only grows softer with the years.

Frequently asked

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
