the story,

Behind this piece

Jamdani is one of the oldest continuous weaving traditions in the world, its origins traced to the Bengal delta long before Mughal courts elevated it to legend. Recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, it is worked on a pit loom, with each supplementary weft motif inserted by hand, thread by thread, without a separate shuttle. This cotton Jamdani carries that same unhurried intelligence. The floral pallu, blooming against the tickled-pink ground, reflects the Bengali weaver's instinct for botanicals, a motif vocabulary refined across centuries in districts like Dhaka and Phulia.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this saree in a high Bengali drape for a literary festival or a Rabindra Jayanti evening, anchored with oxidised silver jewellery from Bengal's own dokra or silver-filigree traditions. For a daytime art gallery visit, pair it with a sleeveless raw-silk blouse in ivory and flat Kolhapuri sandals in tan. At a summer wedding lunch, a scoop-neck blouse in the same tickled-pink cotton, with thin gold bangles and jhumkas, lets the handloom speak without competition. Keep the silhouette clean; Jamdani earns its own attention.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand-wash this pure cotton Jamdani in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, never wringing or twisting the fabric. Rinse thoroughly and lift it flat from the water to avoid strain on the supplementary-weft floats. Dry in deep shade, spread horizontally on a clean surface or draped over a wide rail. Iron on a medium cotton setting while slightly damp, on the reverse side. Fold along the original weave lines and store wrapped in soft muslin, away from direct light. With this care, the cloth deepens and softens beautifully across years of wearing.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
