about the piece,

Description

There are sarees that dress a woman, and there are sarees that carry a conversation across centuries. This art silk creation draws from the living vocabulary of Banaras, where the loom has long been a place of devotion as much as labour. The all-over stripe weave moves with quiet authority across the body, disciplined and rhythmic, while the temple border traces its geometry in zari with the measured confidence of a tradition that needs no embellishment beyond itself. The wide border and anchal deepen the piece, holding the eye with their structured grandeur. Available in five considered colourways, from the solar warmth of cadmium yellow to the layered depths of very berry and dark purple, the palette speaks to festive occasions, family gatherings, and the kind of evening that deserves something considered. For a classical line, pair it with a contrast-coloured silk blouse in deep red or ivory, letting the zari border claim its rightful attention. A plain antique gold bangle and kohl-lined eyes complete what the weave has already begun.

the story,

Behind this piece

The temple border is among Banaras's oldest weaving signatures, its triangular spires drawn from the silhouette of shikhara architecture that lines the ghats of Varanasi. Woven on pit looms in the narrow lanes of Madanpura and Peeli Kothi, this art silk saree carries the structural logic of a Banarasi master weave: disciplined all-over stripes in the body, zari coursing through a wide border, and an anchal where the full vocabulary of the loom is declared. The palette, cadmium yellow to deep aubergine purple, reads like a temple at dusk, lit and reverential.

to wear it,

How to style

For a festive afternoon, pair the cadmium yellow colourway with a raw silk blouse in ivory and gold Kolhapuri heels. The dazzling blue variant earns its place at a wedding reception alongside antique silver jhumkas and a box clutch in champagne. Peacock green worn at a cultural sabha looks composed against a full-sleeved mustard blouse and oxidised choker. Very berry, the most contemporary of the five, suits a Diwali gathering when matched with deep burgundy velvet heels and minimal polki studs. Pin the pleats sharp; the wide border demands a clean drape.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk carries the sheen of pure silk but requires gentler handling than its natural counterpart. Hand wash in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent; never wring or twist the fabric as this distorts the zari weave. Rinse once, press gently between dry towels, and dry flat in shade, never in direct sunlight, which fades the zari's lustre over time. Iron on a low silk setting with a pressing cloth between iron and surface. Store wrapped in a soft muslin cloth, away from moisture and synthetic fabrics that can cause the zari to tarnish.
