the story,

Behind this piece

Zari embroidery carries within it centuries of Mughal court patronage, refined across the ateliers of Surat, Varanasi, and Lucknow into a language of controlled opulence. The technique used here, threading metallic zari alongside sequins across fluid georgette, belongs to a lineage of surface embellishment where each motif is placed with deliberate intention. Storm-gray as a ground colour is a considered choice: it neither competes with nor diminishes the silver-toned embroidery, but holds it the way a winter sky holds starlight. The net dupatta extends that same sensibility, adding layered translucency to the composition.

to wear it,

How to style

For a formal evening reception, pair the stitched kurta with wide-leg georgette palazzos and silver Kolhapuri block-heeled sandals. A single strand of oxidised silver with grey moonstone keeps the palette cohesive. For a daytime festive gathering, choose tapered churidar pants and slip-on mules in nude or champagne. At a destination wedding, drape the net dupatta over one shoulder, pinned with a small silver brooch, and complement with jhumkas in antique silver. Minimal makeup, a low chignon, and a clutch in gunmetal complete each look without overpowering the fabric's quiet authority.

to last,

Fabric & care

Georgette is a crêpe-weave fabric that responds poorly to heat and mechanical agitation. Dry-clean this fabric length before stitching to preserve the zari's lustre and prevent sequin loosening. If hand-washing is necessary after stitching, use cold water with a mild pH-neutral detergent, supporting the full weight of the wet fabric at all times. Never wring. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which yellows metallic threads over time. Store folded in a clean muslin cloth, avoiding plastic bags that trap moisture. Zari retains its sheen longest when kept away from humidity and perfume contact.
