about the piece,

Description

Woven where the Godavari bends and the loom remembers every season, this Paithani carries spring itself into its silk. Crafted in Yeola, the historic heartland of Paithani weaving in Maharashtra, the saree is fashioned from pure mulberry silk threads interlocked by hand on pit looms using the ancient tapestry technique. The mor pallu, a signature of classical Paithani tradition, is rendered in fine zari, its peacock motifs fanning outward with the unhurried confidence of a craft refined over centuries. The chattai border, named for its basket-weave geometry, frames the drape with structural elegance, while the spring-bud brocade field breathes lightness into what is otherwise a deeply ceremonial textile. Zari here is not ornament for its own sake; it is the language through which Yeola weavers have long spoken of abundance, auspice, and the turning of seasons. Wear this at a Maharashtrian wedding or a festive gathering where tradition is not performance but genuine inheritance. Pair it with a silk blouse in deep peacock green or antique gold to let the mor pallu speak without interruption.

the story,

Behind this piece

Paithani is among the oldest living silk traditions of the Deccan, woven in Paithan, a town on the banks of the Godavari in Maharashtra. For centuries, master weavers of this region have hand-interlocked zari and silk threads to build the characteristic mor, the peacock, into the pallu with painstaking tapestry technique. This saree carries that legacy in its spring-bud body, where zari brocade catches light like dew on new leaves, and the chattai border, a woven lattice of geometric precision, frames the drape with the quiet authority that only handloom can offer.

to wear it,

How to style

For a daytime wedding ceremony, pair this saree with a raw silk blouse in deep teal or unbleached ivory, and finish with temple-set polki earrings and kolhapuri heels in tan leather. For Diwali gatherings, choose a full-sleeved brocade blouse that echoes the zari in the pallu and add gold kada bangles. For a summer evening reception, drape it in the Nauvari style with a short blouse, letting the mor pallu cascade freely, then anchor the look with oxidised silver toe rings and a single floral gajra at the nape.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure silk demands gentle handling. Dry-clean this saree after every two to three wears to preserve the zari's lustre and prevent the silk warp from weakening. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent and never wring or twist the fabric. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which yellows silk over time. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth, not plastic, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks along the zari borders. A cedar block nearby will deter moths.
