Spectra-Green Georgette Saree from Kashmir with Aari Embroidered Floral Motifs
Hand-wash gently with mild detergent. Do not wring. Dry in shade, iron on the lowest setting.
Description
Some colours do not arrive quietly, and spectra-green is one of them. This georgette saree carries the distinctive lightness that the fabric is celebrated for, its surface allowing the embroidery to breathe rather than overwhelm. The floral motifs are worked in aari, a craft native to Kashmir in which a hooked needle draws thread through fabric with a precision that no loom can replicate. Aari embroidery has been practised across the Kashmir Valley for centuries, most notably in and around Srinagar, where generations of artisans have refined the stitch into something approaching portraiture in thread. The florals here sit with the effortless naturalism that defines Kashmiri embroidery at its finest, each petal coaxed rather than imposed upon the cloth. The georgette drapes with a gentle fluidity, making this saree equally suited to an intimate celebration and a formal evening occasion. Style it with a sleeveless raw-silk blouse in ivory or champagne to let the green hold its ground without competition. A single strand of polki or gold jewellery at the neck will complete the composition without crowding it.

Behind this piece
Aari embroidery takes its name from the fine hooked needle, the aari, drawn through fabric with a patience that cannot be hurried. In Kashmir, this craft has been refined across centuries, carried through workshops in Srinagar and the surrounding valley, where artisans trace floral compositions inherited from Mughal garden imagery. On georgette, a cloth that resists the needle's pull, the work demands particular skill: each chain-stitched petal anchored with precision so the motif blooms without distorting the drape. The spectra-green ground gives these flowers their full atmospheric depth.
How to style
For a winter wedding reception, pair this saree with a full-sleeved ivory or champagne silk blouse to let the embroidery remain the focal point. Silver filigree jhumkas and a carved silver cuff, preferably in bidri or Rajasthani silverwork, will honour the craft's northern heritage without overcrowding the look. For a daytime cultural event, a cropped velvet blouse in deep plum works beautifully. At a festive family gathering, drape in a Gujarati style to reveal the pallu's embroidery fully, and complete with block-heeled kolhapuris in tan or bronze.
Fabric & care
Georgette is a lightweight crepe-weave fabric with a slightly rough texture that responds poorly to machine agitation. Hand-wash gently in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping soaking time under five minutes. Never wring; press between two clean dry towels and hang in shade away from direct sunlight, which fades the ground colour. Steam-iron on low heat from the reverse side, placing a cotton press cloth over the embroidered sections to protect the chain stitching. Store folded in soft muslin, away from moisture, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent creasing.
