Behind this piece
Pochampally, a village in Telangana's Nalgonda district, has given the world one of its most technically demanding textile traditions: double ikat, where both warp and weft threads are resist-dyed before a single throw of the shuttle. The geometric precision of this pallu is not printed or embroidered but woven entirely into the silk itself. Recognised with a Geographical Indication tag, Pochampally ikat carries the vocabulary of a community that has practised this art across generations. The temple border, with its rhythmic repetition of sacred motifs, roots the saree firmly in the ceremonial textile canon of the Deccan.
How to style
Wear this saree for a festive lunch or a curated gallery evening, anchored by a raw silk or tissue blouse in deep ivory or warm gold to let the meadow tones breathe. A short-sleeved round-neck blouse keeps the silhouette clean and contemporary. Complement with oxidised silver jewellery from Andhra Pradesh to honour the saree's regional provenance, or choose uncut diamond studs for understated formality. Kolhapuri heeled chappals in tan leather or block-heeled mojris in neutral tones will complete the look without competing with the ikat's intricate geometry.
Fabric & care
Pure silk is a protein fibre that rewards patience and gentleness. Dry-clean this saree after the first two or three wears to preserve the ikat dyes, which can be sensitive to prolonged water exposure. If hand-washing, use cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent; never wring or twist the fabric. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which causes silk to yellow and weaken over time. Store folded in a soft cotton muslin cloth, re-folding along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks along the silk threads.
