the story,

Behind this piece

Crochet-work arrived on Indian shores through Portuguese and colonial-era trade, yet it found its most lasting home in the nimble hands of artisans across Goa, coastal Karnataka, and parts of Tamil Nadu. The cut-work tradition alongside it draws from a parallel lineage of needle crafts practised in royal ateliers, where negative space was understood as ornament. This border unites both sensibilities: the looped geometry of crochet meeting the deliberate silence of cut-work. Rendered in art silk, the sharp green carries the particular brightness that Indian festive dress has always demanded of its edges and finishing details.

to wear it,

How to style

Stitch this border along the hem of a cream or ivory chanderi kurta for a festive lunch or puja gathering, letting the green read as a considered accent rather than contrast. On a white cotton saree, it works beautifully as a pallu border, especially with gold jhumkas and kolhapuri chappals. For diaspora weddings abroad, apply it to the neckline of a pale silk blouse to anchor an otherwise understated look. The cut-work detail catches light and movement, so garments with some drape will carry it best. Pair with minimal jewellery; this border earns its space without competition.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk, a woven viscose filament, holds colour well but weakens when wet, so hand-washing in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent is essential. Never wring or twist the fabric; press water out gently and roll in a clean cotton towel to absorb moisture. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades the sharp green over time. Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse side, placing a thin cloth between iron and border to protect the cut-work loops. Store flat or loosely rolled, not folded sharply, to prevent crease lines forming across the crochet structure.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
