the story,

Behind this piece

The high valleys of Kinnaur and Kullu have long spoken in thread. Woven in the wool of mountain sheep and bordered with the geometric embroidery particular to Himachali craft traditions, this scarf carries the visual language of a community that has ornamented textiles across centuries of harsh winters and festival seasons. The Kinnauri stitch, bold and rhythmically repeated, once marked ceremonial shawls worn by men and women both. Here, that same border finds a contemporary form: a narrow frame of colour against rich, undyed wool grounds in black, gray, and white.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape the black or jet-black colourway over a raw-silk kurta and straight-cut trousers for a winter evening gathering. The star-white variant pairs quietly with an ivory Chanderi sari and silver Himachali jewellery, letting the embroidered border carry all the detail. For everyday wear, knot the gray-violet or cocoa-brown version loosely over a wool overcoat alongside leather Kolhapuri sandals. The unisex cut suits a man's achkan equally well. All colourways work without competing; the embroidery does the speaking.

to last,

Fabric & care

Wool from mountain regions retains lanolin longer than plains-bred fibre, which means it resists moisture and light soil naturally. Hand-wash in cool water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, working the fabric carefully without wringing or twisting. Rinse thoroughly and press water out by rolling in a clean cotton towel. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades embroidery thread over time. Fold along the embroidered border rather than creasing across it. Store in a breathable muslin bag with a cedar block to discourage moths and preserve the wool's softness across many seasons.
