about the piece,

Description

Royal purple, the colour of court and contemplation, finds its most fitting expression in the ancient loom-work of Yeola. This Paithani saree is woven in art silk, its body holding the deep, luminous violet that Maharashtrian weavers have long associated with ceremonial grandeur. Across the field, zari-worked paisley bootis catch the light with the quiet confidence of a craft that predates modern fashion by centuries. The anchal unfolds into its fullest glory: a procession of peacocks rendered in the signature interlocked-weave technique that defines Paithani's place among India's most revered textile traditions. Each peacock on the border carries the meticulous feather-detail that Yeola artisans have refined across generations, translating a living bird into gold-threaded permanence. The resulting fabric is at once celebratory and composed, suited equally to a wedding reception, a festival gathering, or any occasion that calls for colour worn with intention. Pair this saree with a contrasting ivory or antique-gold blouse to let the purple speak without competition. A single temple-jewellery set and hair adorned simply with fresh jasmine will complete the picture with fitting grace.

the story,

Behind this piece

Paithani is one of Maharashtra's oldest and most venerated weaving traditions, originating in the ancient town of Paithan on the banks of the Godavari. Historically patronised by the Peshwa courts, it was considered a treasure worthy of royal dowries. The defining vocabulary of the craft appears here in full: the zari-woven paisley bootis scattered across the body and the celebrated peacock motifs adorning the anchal. This art-silk interpretation carries the visual grammar of that centuries-old tradition, the geometry, the lustre, the symmetry, rendered in a deep royal purple that recalls the dye chambers of Deccan courts.

to wear it,

How to style

For a festive evening, pair this saree with a full-sleeved raw-silk blouse in deep gold or ivory and choose temple-style gold jhumkas with uncut polki drops. Kolhapuri nath earrings would anchor the Maharashtrian sensibility of the weave. For a wedding reception, drape it in the traditional nauvari style and layer with a pearl choker and gold bangles stacked to the elbow. For a curated cultural occasion or a classical music evening, a simple boat-neck blouse in contrasting emerald keeps the peacock anchal as the sole focal point. Heeled gold mojris complete each look with ease.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk responds best to dry cleaning for the first two or three wears, particularly where zari work is present, as metallic threads can distort under agitation. If hand-washing at home, use cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, never wringing or twisting the fabric. Lay flat on a clean cotton towel and allow to air-dry in shade. Store folded in soft muslin, away from direct light and moisture. Place silica gel sachets nearby to prevent tarnishing of the zari. Avoid hanging storage, as the weight of the anchal can stretch the weave over time.
