about the piece,

Description

Red has always known how to make a room fall silent. This four-piece sari suit arrives in fluid georgette, a fabric long favoured for its featherlight drape and the way it catches candlelight with a quiet authority. The choli is where the hand of the artisan speaks most clearly: heavy sequin and bead embellishment worked in dense formations, recalling the lavish surface embroideries associated with the ateliers of Lucknow and the festive craft traditions of Rajasthan, where ornament is never excess but rather a form of devotion. The wrap-around silhouette offers something between the freedom of a skirt and the ceremony of a sari, making it accessible without surrendering any of its grandeur. Georgette's natural movement ensures the red reads differently with every turn, now deep and burnished, now brightened by the glint of a sequin catching light. Wear it to a sangeet or a winter wedding reception, pairing it with gold jhumkas and a sleek, low bun. A silk or brocade clutch in ivory or champagne will let the embellishment breathe without competition.

the story,

Behind this piece

The wrap-around sari suit reimagines the six-yard tradition for a contemporary wearer who refuses to choose between ease and grandeur. Georgette, a fabric named for the French couturière Georgette de la Plante, arrived in Indian fashion through the trade routes of the early twentieth century and found its truest expression in Lucknow and Surat ateliers, where artisans layered it with sequin and bead embellishment. The heavy choli here continues that Indo-Western conversation, each bead placed by hand, catching light the way a chandelier does: suddenly, completely, without apology.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this on a winter wedding evening with a silk tissue dupatta draped loosely over one shoulder, left to trail. Pair the choli with wide-leg palazzo trousers in ivory or deep burgundy for a cocktail dinner where the sari silhouette feels too formal. For a sangeet, keep jewellery architectural: chandelier earrings in kundan or polki, no necklace. A strappy gold kitten heel elongates the silhouette under the georgette hem. Complete the look with a potli clutch in matching red velvet, kept minimal and unfussy.

to last,

Fabric & care

Georgette is a twisted-crepe weave and responds poorly to rough handling. Dry-clean this garment after each significant wear; home washing risks distorting the beadwork and pulling sequin threads. If light freshening is needed between wears, steam gently from a distance of fifteen centimetres, never pressing iron directly onto embellished surfaces. Store flat, folded in unbleached muslin, away from direct sunlight to prevent the red dye from fading. Keep beaded panels face-inward when folding to protect the surface from abrasion during storage.
