the story,

Behind this piece

Leheriya, meaning "wave" in Rajasthani, is a resist-dyeing tradition rooted in the desert towns of Rajasthan, where cloth is rolled diagonally and tied before immersion in successive dye baths to create those luminous, cascading stripes. This dupatta carries that vocabulary of colour into Amritsar's craft vocabulary, where artisans have layered it with bead-mirror embroidery and a gotta patti border in gold. Tissue fabric, woven with a luminous silk-like finish, catches light with every movement. The knotted tassels at each hem are a finishing gesture, unhurried and considered, true to the Punjab's decorative sensibility.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape this over a white mul-cotton kurta with palazzo trousers for a Teej afternoon gathering, letting the rainbow stripes carry all the colour. For a wedding reception, pair it with a champagne or ivory silk suit and gold juttis from Kolhapuri or Punjabi craftsmen. The gotta patti border holds its own against antique kundan earrings and a carved gold bangle. On quieter days, knot it loosely over a linen shirt and straight-cut pants, allowing the bead-mirror work to catch the light as an accent, not a statement.

to last,

Fabric & care

Tissue fabric, composed of fine silk or silk-blend threads woven to a semi-transparent weight, requires a careful hand. Dry-clean is strongly preferred to preserve the gotta patti border, which can distort under water. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water with a mild fabric wash, no wringing or rubbing. Lay flat on a clean cotton towel to dry away from direct sunlight, which fades the resist-dyed colours over time. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth, never compressed under heavier textiles, to protect the bead-mirror embroidery and the delicate tassel ends.
