Behind this piece
This dupatta speaks in the language of Punjab's most celebratory craft traditions. Gota Patti, the art of applying ribbon-like metallic borders, has adorned bridal and festive textiles across Rajasthan and Punjab for centuries, its origins tracing to Mughal-era court embellishment. Here, it meets the spirited craft of mirror-work, a technique long favoured by artisans across the Thar belt and into Sindhi communities, where tiny convex mirrors catch light like scattered rain. The net base keeps everything weightless. The rainbow colouring and knotted tassels are unmistakably Punjabi in their joyful, unapologetic exuberance.
How to style
Drape this over a white or ivory Anarkali and let the rainbow spectrum carry the occasion. For a mehendi or sangeet, pair it with a lemon-yellow sharara and gold Kolhapuri sandals, keeping jewellery minimal so the mirror-work speaks freely. A contemporary option: wear it as a stole over a fitted ivory kurta with straight-cut trousers and oxidised silver earrings. The Gota Patti border frames the face beautifully when worn over the head for a morning temple visit or a sunlit outdoor wedding ceremony in the cooler months.
Fabric & care
Net is a delicate open-weave fabric and must never meet a washing machine. Hand-wash gently in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation to an absolute minimum so the net does not distort around the mirror-beads. Do not wring. Press flat between two clean cotton towels and allow to air-dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades the metallic Gota Patti. Store rolled loosely in a muslin cloth, never folded sharply, to prevent creasing along the net and to protect the mirror-work from snagging adjacent fabric.
