the story,

Behind this piece

Kanjivaram silk weaving traces its roots to the weavers of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, a community whose craft lineage stretches back centuries through the Devanga and Mudaliar weaving clans. What distinguishes this saree is its Bangalore provenance, where the silk is sourced from the mulberry-cultivating belt of Karnataka before being woven into the characteristic tight, lustrous weave that Kanjivaram demands. The horse motifs rendered in copper-coloured zari thread carry an older iconography, referencing temple friezes and royal procession imagery embedded in South Indian textile tradition long before mechanised production arrived.

to wear it,

How to style

For a winter wedding, pair this saree with a raw silk full-sleeved blouse in deep champagne and antique Chettinad gold necklace with uncut stones. At a formal cultural evening, drape it in the Nivi style and anchor the look with Kolhapuri heels in tan leather. For a Pongal or Dasara gathering, wear it with a contrast blouse in forest green, add temple-motif gold bangles and a single strand of polished rudraksha beads kept understated. The copper zari reads warm against ivory, burgundy, and most forest-adjacent tones visible in the saree's palette.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure mulberry silk of this weight requires dry cleaning for the first three washes to preserve the integrity of the copper-coloured zari, which can tarnish if exposed to soap residue. If hand washing becomes necessary, use cold water with a pH-neutral detergent, never wringing the fabric. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight which degrades silk protein over time. Store folded in a clean muslin cloth, not plastic, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks along the zari borders.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
