Pure Pashmina Shawl for Men with Sozni Hand-Embroidered Border and Paisley on Corners from Srinagar
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
There are garments that ask nothing of occasion and give everything to presence. This pure Pashmina shawl is woven from the fine undercoat of Changthangi goats, combed from the high-altitude meadows of Ladakh and brought down to the looms of Srinagar, where the valley's light seems to settle into the weave itself. The border and corner paisleys are rendered in Sozni embroidery, one of Kashmir's most exacting needle traditions, worked by artisans who spend years mastering the single-thread stitch that allows motifs to breathe rather than burden the cloth. The colourway, a soft and luminous mother of pearl, carries the restraint particular to men's Kashmiri weaving at its most considered. At this weight and quality, the shawl belongs equally to a winter durbar, a quiet family gathering, or the private pleasure of wrapping oneself in something irreplaceable. Drape it across the shoulders over a sherwani or a well-cut Nehru jacket for formal occasions. On quieter evenings, it sits naturally over a fine kurta, worn loose and unhurried.

Behind this piece
Sozni is among the most demanding needle arts practised in the Kashmir Valley, demanding years of apprenticeship before a craftsman earns the right to work on pure Pashmina. The word itself derives from the Persian for needle, and the tradition traces its roots to the Mughal period, when the courts of Akbar and Jahangir first patronised Kashmiri shawl weavers. This piece carries that lineage in its mother-of-pearl ground, where hand-stitched paisleys at each corner and a fine embroidered border reveal the unhurried devotion particular to artisans of Srinagar's old city quarters.
How to style
Draped across the shoulders over a tailored ivory kurta, this shawl becomes the entire statement for a winter wedding or an evening mehendi gathering. Pair it with cognac juttis and a minimal silk churidar for a look rooted in quiet elegance. For diaspora occasions, layer it over a well-cut charcoal suit, letting the mother-of-pearl ground read as a refined evening accessory. A single silver ring or a slim antique bangle is jewellery enough; the Sozni embroidery already carries its own ornament with considerable authority.
Fabric & care
Pure Pashmina is Capra hircus fibre, finer than cashmere, and must be treated accordingly. Hand-wash in cold water with a pH-neutral, mild detergent, using only the gentlest pressing motion, never wringing or twisting. Rinse once, then roll the shawl inside a clean cotton towel to draw out moisture. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades the ground and weakens the fibre. Store folded, not hung, inside a muslin bag with dried neem leaves or cedar to discourage moths. Handled well, this shawl will last several generations.
