the story,

Behind this piece

The paisley motif carries centuries of weight. Known in India as *kairi*, the mango-shaped droplet travelled through Mughal court embroideries, Kashmir shawl looms, and block-printed cottons of Rajasthan before becoming the world's most recognised Indian export. Here, it returns to a silhouette worthy of its lineage: a vintage maxi cut in art silk, printed with the full, iridescent splendour of the peacock, India's national bird and the oldest symbol of monsoon abundance. Each colourway, from Pagoda Blue to Scarlet Sage, mirrors the peacock's own refusal to settle for a single hue.

to wear it,

How to style

For a festive afternoon, layer the Proud Peacock colourway with a fitted raw-silk jacket in deep teal and kolhapuri block-heeled sandals. The Lavender Blue and Baby Lavender variants pair beautifully with oxidised silver jhumkas and a fine Chanderi dupatta for a semi-formal gathering. Those choosing Mirage Gray or Solitary Star will find the print speaks loudest against restraint: keep accessories minimal, a single kundan choker, pointed mojris, and a structured potli clutch complete the look without competing with the dress's own considered drama.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is woven from viscose or synthetic filaments that mimic the lustre of pure silk but require their own discipline. Hand-wash in cold water with a pH-neutral detergent, never wringing or twisting the fabric. Rinse gently and roll inside a clean cotton towel to absorb moisture before hanging in shade. Do not tumble-dry. Iron on a low, silk-appropriate setting with a pressing cloth between iron and fabric. Store folded in soft muslin, away from direct light, which can shift the depth of printed colours over time.
