Behind this piece
The woven stripe is one of the oldest forms of loom language, and in the shawl-weaving traditions of northern India, it carries particular weight. Where plain wool grounds meet precisely placed border stripes, the weaver exercises restraint as a form of mastery. This stole draws from that discipline: an 80-percent wool body, warm and substantial, softened by a 20-percent silk introduction that lends the cloth its quiet luminosity. The border stripe is not decoration applied after the fact; it is structural, woven in from the first thread.
How to style
In grey and pink, drape this stole loosely over a white Lucknawi kurta for a Sunday lunch or gallery afternoon, and let the border do the speaking. Anchor the grey and purple colourway over a charcoal anarkali for evening, pinning it at one shoulder with a small silver brooch. For cooler diaspora winters, wear either shade wrapped as a wide scarf over a camel coat, paired with tan leather boots and a single oxidised silver bangle kept close to the wrist.
Fabric & care
Wool-silk blends require gentleness at every stage. Hand wash separately in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, working the cloth gently rather than wringing it. Rinse thoroughly, then press the water out by rolling the stole between two dry towels. Lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight, which dulls silk over time. Store folded, never hung, to preserve the drape of the wool. A cedar block placed nearby will discourage moths without the harshness of chemical repellents.
