Behind this piece
Satin weave is one of the oldest textile structures known to the subcontinent, its smooth, light-catching surface historically reserved for court garments and ceremonial dress. This plain satin lining fabric, woven in polyester for contemporary practicality, honours that tradition of luminous finish. It serves the inside of a garment with the same attention one gives its exterior. Each colour, from the depth of Deep Claret to the cool calm of Capri Blue, is chosen to complement India's richest outer fabrics: Banarasi brocade, Kanjeevaram silk, and hand-embroidered chanderi.
How to style
Line a deep Claret or Raspberry Rose satin beneath a heavy Banarasi silk lehenga to ease movement at weddings. Capri Blue or Mosaic Blue works beautifully inside structured bandhgala jackets for formal evenings, lending a quiet flash of colour at the cuff. Freesia Yellow pairs warmly with ivory or gold-toned anarkalis, adding a sunlit interior that lifts the garment from within. Complete these looks with oxidised silver or polki jewellery and kolhapuri block-heeled sandals for occasions that call for considered, unhurried dressing.
Fabric & care
Polyester satin retains its sheen best when hand-washed in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, as this distorts the weave structure and dulls the surface. Lay flat to dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can shift the colour over time. Iron on the lowest setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and fabric. Store folded loosely in a cotton muslin bag rather than compressed in a drawer, to preserve the smooth surface and prevent unwanted creasing across the satin face.
